Help with using simple search

Use the simple search to search for a single word or short phrase. Social Care Online will return results based on an exact match of the word or phrase you have entered.

It recommended that the simple search option is used for finding "unique" words, phrases or acronyms e.g. "adhd" or "ptsd".

Example:  Find out what there is on ptsd (post traumatic stress disorder)

simple search box

Note: Social Care Online is not case sensitive.

Search results will include records where “ptsd” is found in any field – author name, title, abstract etc. This search is referred to as a Free text search.

Results include:
Title: Lifetime traumatic events and high-risk behaviors as predictors o PTSD symptoms in people with severe mental illnesses.
Abstract: ‘Both PTSD and dementia have been implicated in the increased risk of aggression....’

Tip: If your search results do not appear to be very relevant  or you get too many results you can refine your search results in a number of ways:

  1. Limit  your search by content or format
  2. Look at Topics and make a note of how Social Care Online defines your subject area
  3. Use the Intermediate search option and use more than one search word or phrase
